A big dinner

It is my last blog post for ales 204. Nice to meet you guys here. It is almost the end of the term. Everyone would be suffering from papers and finals. Relax, guys. Yesterday, I took one day off to have fun.  Hahah...right.  I went to T&T supermarket and bought  a lot stuffs and prepared a big meal for myself.
The image below is what I had for my meal yesterday.

Here are the dishes I cooked yesterday. Almost traditional Chinese dishes. Do you see the left dish( the one with black plate). It is my favoriate dish.  The ingredients is cooked beef piece and tomatoes Firstly, I cut into small pieces. Tomatoes had also been cut into small pieces.  Then ,  fried tomatoes and beef piece, and added tomato a scoop of salt and one scoop of black pepper. Third, I've boiled  beef and tomatoes for 15 mins. At last, according to taste a gelatinous salt, I turned off the heat and append a little monosodium glutamate. I haven't cooked for a long time, because I had a lot of assignments to due :( I enjoyed the meal a lot yesterday. Also, I had a special desert. Here is the picture

It is made up of mago. Pretty, isn't it?
As a traditional Chinese girl, I always keep the word that my mum told me in my mind. She told me that if I wanted to be a traditional Chinese girl, I should be good at cooking. After I came to Canada, I missed my mum's cooking a lot. I was trying to cook dishes in the way she did. I learned how to cook these 3 dishes from my mum. You must be curious. Why I cooked the dishes that learned from my mum. Because I miss her a lot. I've left home for a long time.

At last, I am so happy to be with you guys in ales 204. I enjoyed it a lot in the class. I wish you guys can get a great grade for finals. Enjoy your holidays. For me , I am preparing to go back to China for Christmas. I will graduate soon in the comming winter.  The memory of being with you guys will last long.
It is a picture that I took near Cameron Library. The pumplin is cute, isn't it?
I enjoyed my life a lot here. Hope you guys enjoy your holiday.

What I've learned from ALES204

It is almost the end of the term. I am so happy to be with lovely Jessel and TAs in the class. In this class, I have learned a lot of useful things. As an international student, I didn't have many chances to access to some media tools that Canadian people use. For example, I just knew facebook before I took this course. I didn't know how to use twitter and linkdin. After I got a chance to use twitter in ALES204, I add my favoriate singers, avril lavigne and  Justin Bieber. Now I can know how they think through twitter.
This semester, I went to Lavigne's concert. I took a lot of pictures, and shared the pictures with my friends on facebook. I would like to share these pictures with you guys.
See! How she sings. Cool!
Also, in this class, I know a lot things that I didn't know before. Before I did science article on option 1, I had no idea about the Open Access Movement.  Now I realise how important it is. In the class I noticed there were several types of open access. I believe I could find the right one for myself.
In China, we have some communication tools. For example,QQ. It is a tool similiar to MSN. A lot Chinese have this program. This is my profile page of my qq.
Everyday, I use QQ to chat and talk with my parents and friends. Yesterday, my sister sent a picture to me . It is about her wedding. She is just one year old than me. Now she is married. Maybe, it's the time for me to get a boyfriend. Hahah, just kidding.
This is a picture about my sister's wedding. Just want to share with you guys.

To me, communication tool is important, because I would like to know about my parents, my friends. The internet changes the world. Now we get more close to each other by using these communication tools.

My Wikipedia article

ALES204 required students to do a wikipedia article. Students were asked to complete a wikipedia article by adding additional information. Picking a topic was not difficult for me. As an international student from China, I really wanted to share Chinese culture with others. Therefore, I pick the topic "Nanxi River".  Nanxi River was very famous in my home city. The Nanxi River Scenic Area was named a National Tourist Scenic Spot by the State Council in 1988 due to its scenic landscape accompanied by its unique local culture. I visited it for several times. Normally I would like to visit Nanxi River in summer. In summer, driffting in the river was my favorite.I could sit in a bamboo made catamaran which will drift very fast with the river waves. It was a perfect place of a combination of natural views. It was really a good place for visitors to relax theirselves. Here are two pictures when I was in Nanxi. The pictures were taken by my father. Although they were taken 3, or 4 years ago, my memory of Nanxi lasts long.

The water of the Nanxi River is limpid without any pollution.

I was in a temple in Nanxi
For the hard part: writing it. As an international student, I thought I was not good at English writing. The Nanxi River Scenic Area was named a National Tourist Scenic Spot by the State Council in 1988 due to its scenic landscape accompanied by its unique local culture. It is a famous place in my home city. I spent a lot time on doing research. I found some descriptions to the location of Nanxi River. Unfortunately, I could not find much information about food there. I found an article which described the traditional food items a little bit. When I added it in my wiki article and then worked on the reference, it showed that that link was in a blacklist. Therefore, I decided not to add any information about food in Nanxi. The best way to experience the culture and food there is to visit Nanxi River. I add some information about location, climate, and some hot activities in Nanxi River.  Here is the link of my edited articlehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanxi_River_(Zhejiang)    Here is the picture of my wiki article

I checked some student's blog post of wiki article. They picked various topics. One of them which impressed me a lot is the four regents of Kangxi Emperor. I studied Chinese history when I was in high school. I was really interested in the history of Qing Dynasty. I also watched a lot Chinese dramas about Qing. This topic was picked by Xinghui Zhu. I think he did a really good job on this article. Here is the link of Xinghui's blog posthttp://www.feystyle.blogspot.com/I'd like to talk to him and discuss the story of Qing a little bit. I am so surprised to have someone who is also interested in Chinese history. I've never thought to make friends through this assignment.  Cool!

About Shuhuai Li

It's my first time to blog here. My name is Shuhuai Li. I come from China. Shuhuai in Chinese means to be happy every day. My parents gave me this name because they want me to have a positive attitude when I am in difficulties and bring happiness to other's life. Well, I am glad with this name. I think everyone has opportunity to be happy in their lives. What I want to do is to use my own happiness power and overcome any obstacle and enjoy the happiness I deserve.

I am a transfer student from China. I've been here for almost two years. I study Agricultural Business Management in ALES faculty. I am in forth year in U of A. Actually, I studied  business administration in my home university in China. I decided to change my major before I came here because I wanted to know more about agriculture.

I enjoy my life here a lot.  In the past two years, I made many friends  here. My friends are from different countries around the world.  The pity is that some of my friends are back in their home country now, and they are not going back. I think the memory will last long. I miss the time spent with them. I will cherish it. Also, I need to mention the funny courses I took. Here I'd like to share my happiness with you guys.

I took Animal Science last term. In that course, we were divided into several groups. We need to explore combs and the mating behaviour of chickens. My group chose to do filming and make a video to explain why some roosters combs are more attractive than others. My group put a lot effort in this video.  I act as a hen called Judy in this video. We really got close to each other after this video. Cool! This video is humorous. Watch it, you will like it !

I did CSL before in AREC173. I think it opened up a new world to students. My CSL partner is Marc. He is the General Manager of Student Union. During the project, we found that healthy eating on campus is difficult. Food on campus are not healthy. Food companies were trying to hide information of daily value of nutrients people need less.(i.e. soldium, fat). In this project, we collected information of food items on campus, and calculated daily value of nutrients that people need less. I did presentation. After presentation, Marc told me he would highlight part of my analysis and post it. Students deserved to know this information.  I learned a lot from CSL. It provided me a good chance for me to communicate with public. During this project, I interviewed a few food companies. Also, I interviewed professors Anders and students who is in nutrition major. I built my confidence to communicate with English speakers. Also, I learned a lot useful nutrition knowlodge.  Here is the link of  the photos that I was in CSL.

To be honest, I was afraid of this course before. A lot of my friends told me this course was pretty difficult because there were a lot public speaking in this course. As an intewnational student, my poor English could be a problem. On first day classroom, I was so nevous. I was trying to tell myself  "Your name is Shuhuai. You should use your happiness power to overcome  English problem.". Soon, I felt relaxed. Now I am totally in love with this course. I find that this course is pretty funny. I have my own facebook, but I don't have twitter and blog. This course provides me a great opportunity to use these two social media tools. I  feel free to use these two tools to share my happiness with my friends. Cool! By the way, nowadays, twitter and blog are becomming more and more popular in China.  If I don't have account for twitter and blog, I think I am sort of out.  I am getting to know more people in the class.  I want to know them more on twitter and blog.

Furthermore, in my last post, I am telling you guys I am a transfer student from China. I would like to share my life in China with you on this page. If you are interested in Chinese culture, please visit my facebook page more. I will update more pictures. Also, in my biography part, I am telling you guys some information about the field I am studying and the reason why I chose to transfer to U of A. It is a long story. I will talk more about it on my facebook.

I just start facebook after I attend ALES204 class. I had my facebook account two years ago, but i never used it. Now I realized that Facebook helps me to get close to my friends. I can learn  more about them  through facebook.  I also find it is also a really useful tool to introduce yourself to otheres. The reason why I create my professional facebook page is that as a forth year student, it is really the time to think about getting a job. I believe this profile can help me to get a job. Employers can easily know my information through this page.  I think my potential employers will prefer to have a look on my facebook rather than read hardcopy resumes. I can post information they need on facebook. I will try to improve my page
